EMG, Worth a look?

Introduction

Here we are again, time for another review and today is yes, you guessed it is a Microbrand. All the way from the USA. I present to you EMG WATCHES, created by two members Eric and David of the online platform watchusseek.com, with the later edition of Eddie. What started as an online discussion, turned into a reality in 2016 when EMG WATCHES was officially founded. Today, I have their latest creation, the DL63, which shares some distinct similarities to another well-known chronograph. Which one? Read on to discover if this is another ''homage'' or if there dare I say it, a  hint of originality.

THE WATCH

Let's get into it, starting from the outside in. The Strap, is a German-made Fluco hunter single stitch rally strap in dark brown, with contrasting black stitching, and like all things made in Germany, is built to last. While a little stiff at first, once worn a couple of times quickly loosens up. Coming in at 22mm tapering off to 20mm, we are off to a quality start here. But will it continue?

The case, made from the traditional 316l stainless steel, comes in at 42mm excluding crown, (44mm with the crown). Aesthetically we have a nice blend, of a brushed bezel, lug tops, and caseback. With polished sides, crown and pushers. The dial itself coated with the ever-reliable sapphire crystal, features a classic matte white finish with perfectly formed matte black sub-dials, which are recessed into the main dial, along with a raised black tachymeter and black hour markers. Lume is one thing the DL63 is certainly not lacking, with Bgw9 lume featuring on the hour and minute hands along with the tips of all hour markers, I would have preferred it to be on the actual markers themselves, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Let's talk about the movement, Powering The DL63 is a very popular chronograph movement the Chinese made Seagull St1901, which is a more updated and more refined version of the Venus 175 Featuring hand-wind capabilities, 21 jewels to prevent any friction between the mechanics, along with a power reserve of 40hours you have a pretty reliable movement, which is becoming increasingly popular with microbrands. All of this can be viewed through the watches, sapphire crystal exhibition cases back. Exhibition case backs are a bit like marmite, you either love them or hate them, given the fact that this has a water resistance of just 30meters, you won't be swimming in this, so why not embrace it and check out the movement in action.

Overall Thoughts

EMG has done well and created a solid, aesthetically pleasing, and reliable chronograph. That is competitively priced, coming in at $350. I am personally a huge fan of the strap that the DL63 comes on, you also get 3 various colored nato straps in a military-style pouch, but for me, they don't do the watch any favors, if anything they take away from the aesthetics when on the wrist. Would I pick this over similarly priced more well-known brands, unfortunately not, but would I have it in my collection along with saying a Citizen chronograph, Yes as it ticks a lot of boxes and is a quality piece.  As always thanks for reading and chatting soon.
