Hms 001 By The Timeless Watch Company
Welcome to another review, Today we have The HMS 001 By the Timeless Watch Company. Created by designer and Founder Mael Oberkampf, Mael is Swiss-born and bred over the past decade he has worked with some of the biggest names in the architecture and watch business, which lead him to found the Timeless Watch Company in 2020.
Let's get straight into it starting as always with the case. The Hms comes in a very wearable lug to lug of 46mm, featuring brushed stainless steel with a screw-down case back along with rose gold accents on the lug's hands and crown, the Hms is eye-catching, with the attention to detail being to an exceptionally high standard. To the right of the case is where you'll find your 3-piece turbine style crown with rose gold accents, coming in at 7mm diameter the push-pull crown rotates with ultimate ease. To the left of the case is where we find a plague featuring the words HMS -001 on a black background screwed in with contrasting rosegold coated screws, To me, this is a bit of an unnecessary addition as when I hear the words I automatically think of an HMS Ship, not a watch. Finally, we have screwed-in lugs with a lug width of 22mm they add to the contemporary feel of the HMS.
Now we move on to the domed sapphire crystal coated dial with ar coating. At its core is where we find a skeletonized rose gold wheel providing a glimpse into the watch's wheelhouse. The black guilloche dial is truly striking along with the rose gold partly skeletonized hour and minute hands providing an almost hypnotic effect. Unfortunately, it's not all good at 9 o clock is where you'll find the Timeless name branching out from the watch's core, for me, I feel this slightly takes away from the watch's aesthetic and if anything slightly devalues the appearance of an otherwise beautiful dial. A rose gold date window occupies 6 o clock but given the addition of a date tag, the actual date fades into the dial. The steeped outer dial adds a nice contrast which black hour indices on a matte white background
The Movement is a Swiss Made Stp 1-11 which is accurate to within +/- 20 seconds per day and features a power reserve of 44 hours. The brown calfskin leather strap while beautifully made with exquisite stitching adding a touch of luxury to the watch is, unfortunately, let down by the a cheap feel polished buckle.
The Hms 001 is a beautiful piece that wears extremely well on my 6.5-inch wrist and the soft leather strap is one of the most comfortable I have ever worn. The question is would I buy one?, and the answer would be No, Unfortunately for me the Price tag of £1500 really doesn't represent value for money, in comparison to such watches as Longines HydroConquest which comes in under £1100 or fellow microbrand Bremoirs offering, The Lexington which retails at £860.
