The Ugly Watch Company, Beauty or Beast?

As always I'll start with a brief intro into the company and why I decided to review them. So if you've read any of my previous reviews , you'll notice they all have one thing in common. There Microbrands, which is what I love and I am always on the hunt for something special, and The Ugly Watch Company is exactly that, founded in 2021 by Landon Dune, who is not just the company owner, but he is a proper watch enthusiast. Having been buying and selling watches for years, but always keeping a close eye on the Microbrand market. What's missing, how can his brand stand out? In what is becoming an overpopulated market? Ladies and Gentlemen . I Give you the Black MOP Diver By The Ugly Watch Company.

So Lets get into it, Starting with the name, The Black Mop Diver, which stands for Black Mother Of Pearl Diver. On arrival I'll be honest while it looked great online, I wasn't really expecting much. The watch comes in very nice hard plastic travel case, with a neoprene style coating and the companies logo embossed in orange with white background. Unzipping the case your greeted by the 42mm Black Mother Of Pearl Diver, which has a real presence about it. You can tell, before you even touch it, that this watch is one seriously solid piece of kit.          Made from 316l Stainless Steel with brushed finishes and a case that feels solid along with a stainless steel bracelet, push- button clasp that tapers down from 24mm to 20mm, and sleek curves that simply hug the wrist with ease. As with most dive watches, we have 120 click unidirectional that is simple put, smooth as silk, with zero back play. To the side a branded beveled screw down crown, with a thickness of 6.8mm ensure you should have zero issues, when trying to unscrew it along with a helium release valve for the more hardcore divers.

At the back of the watch with have a screw down case back along with 300meters water resistance and a laser engraved scuba diver logo, just in case you forget its a dive watch.

Time for the dial with style. Featuring what appears to be a regular matte black dial at first glance, is in fact a dial with an explosion of color. The black mother of pearl dial, is kind of like the old saying '' never judge a book by its cover''. Inside you get an idea that's something lurking beneath the dark exterior, step outside and when the sun shines through the watch's sapphire crystal, your met with an explosion of deep-sea-inspired colors that really are a sight for sore eyes. The black baton hour markers with silver surround are coated in black superluminova to ensure whether your diving deep into the abyss or simply out walking at night, your mother of pearl will shine bright, there's a white date window at 3 clock for a dash of contrast to the black dial, along with polished silver , hour and seconds hand and a royal blue minute hand along with companies logo at 12 o clock.

Last but not least we have we the watches Seiko Nh35 Automatic movement, with a power reserve of 42 hours, this is a solid , reliable movement and is the perfect movement for such a dynamic watch.

Final Thoughts

I am gonna make this short and sweet, for $299 your getting a cracking watch, the build quality and finishes are exceptional with a solid well known reliable movement. Throw in a 2 year warranty , a solid travel case and exceptional customer service. I honestly have no hesitation in recommending The Ugly Watch Company. What would I change? If i was nit picking the option to fit a 24mm band, as it stands the lug to lug is 10mm, but with some creativity you could make it work. That aside This watch is Unbelievable value and you can check it out here. Thanks for Reading.
